Just like the very name, the New Yorker tends to be one of the most needed and craved newspaper themes to start with. The entire aligning, layout and designing of this theme is purely in the very professional manner which tends to be very sophisticated. At the same time, for all those rookies who are marking their initial advent in the print media, this theme tends to be very rewarding. I feel that it confers a lot of knowledge along with the proper method of editing and coordinating one’s news, in terms of both space and words, for better recognition and attention.

This theme also incorporated the best of images and pictures so that the entire column wise division does not give a much cluttered look to the newspaper. With the usage of blue and black colours, the theme tends to be very catchy and has a professional look. FlashFrame is a photo gallery WordPress theme designed by ShutterThemes. Featured prominently on the homepage is rotating fading images feature which can be managed from within the settings of the theme. FlashFrame comes in two colours - black and white.

There is practically little use for this theme except to serve as a photo gallery with an integrated simple blog for small updates or news. Other web users would find the homepage of this theme a little bare and the theme itself lacking major features but it does what it is meant to do - to showcase beautiful pictures and images and maintain the focus on them and their photographers. Users who wish to set up a photo gallery with advanced features would have to implement many customizations by themselves.

bChurch includes great features that will help your church communicate efficiently including social media icons, blogging, and audio or video plug-ins. This church theme is easy to use and maintain with the special bChurch tabbed section and uploading header images is a snap!

The theme is very well laid out with suitable colour combinations, exuding a mysterious yet calming effects associated with the process of believing. On the homepage there aren’t many links or navigation menus to the older posts. There is also no search bar, making it harder for visitors to search for a specific posts or venture deep into post categories. Granted, the automatic category refresh on the homepage should allow people to read your latest posts rather comfortably. I suppose this theme is more useful as an easily set-up website rather than a frequently updated blog.

THiCK is a theme designed specifically for personal blog from WooThemes. We have seen many excellent themes from WooThemes but most of them are either targeted for business owners or collaborative sites like newspaper or magazine style themes.

So it is indeed refreshing when I came across THiCK. It is about time someone personalises a theme that focuses on the blogger, rather than the blog itself. After all, nothing is bigger than the blogger and there would not be a blog if there were no blogger in the first place, right? Let’s see how the designer Matt Brett describes his creation.

What do I think about this theme?

Like I have mentioned, the design of THiCK is a refreshing variation from the many identical themes of WooThemes and other designers out there. While (all) designers scramble to produce niche and Web 2.0 styled themes, we have Matt here who takes a bold step using grunge styles and reverting the focus of the theme back on the blogger.

I like the Twitter plug just below the header, I like the tabbed navigation menu, I like the social profiles listing as well as the LifeStream (and My Books, My Movies, etc.) sidebar(s). If I have $70 or more to spend, I wouldn’t mind using this theme for my personal blog, not if there were more beautiful newspaper, magazine or Web 2.0 styled themes available for free. I just love a theme that is focused on me, enough said!

Gabfire Suvi Magazine Theme

Most bloggers with news niche and magazine websites find Gabfire Premium Themes, owned by 28-year old Mehmet Özekinci, to be perfect for them. The front page of the theme includes link to all the featured articles. What struck me about this theme was the option of watching all the recent post in different categories. As a relief once you clicked on any one of the links, you will find all the featured links to be removed from the page and are going to be left with an uncluttered environment with clear sidebars.

I found their multi-column layouts and clean looks to be considerably attractive. Its balanced designing is sure to make websites uncluttered and yet display all the information. Other features of this newspaper-type layout theme, which left an impression on me, include integration of ‘Get The Image’ plug-in for automatically resizing the first uploaded post images for featured thumbnail, properly placed widgets on sidebars, Ajax Tabs for showing archives, selected video posts, popular tags and recent comments. Integrated Flickr support helps users to keep a track on all their fans in the community.
