Allure

After such iconic interventions in designing web-themes like the WordPress Chrome, Tubular, Church, Streamline, and Agent, Brian Garner has not rested on his laurels. In fact, he has come up with the WordPress Allure Theme 1.0, which is less cluttered, more direct, but also distinctly more elegant than any of his earlier offerings. Allure is the new blog magazine style theme from Studio Press.

Targeted at the news-come-blogging site frontiers for the socially opinionated and innovative business-minded, this new theme is available in two color variants: Allure Aqua, with its pale turquoise and ashen softness and Allure Black, where the colors are more stark and the picture bar is in jet black, setting off the search, blog post and other featured screen blocks. Other snazzy features include a drop-down navigation menu, widget ready at hand, and a full width page option. The featured video strip and the archival support are very easy to access.

Tellingly titled as “Allure”, this theme from Gardner’s home of web wonders is a truly motivated work of design for the entrepreneur of class and unique in it’s maximizing of business potential and an artistic presentation. So what are you waiting for? get the Allure for your domain today!

WP-Clear

A new innovation of the trailblazing WordPress theme is the WP-Clear, brought to us by Solostream. The theme is a God gift sent to the casual blogger. Integrating the best of design, snazziest and functionality, it is, I think, a real highway for anyone with a word to sow on the evanescent skin of virtual Dom.

Armed with the power and variety of the WordPress version 2.7, this blogging and commercial publication site doubles up as news casting one as well, is a treat for all its users. Its retinue of great features includes magazine layout options for home page with space for 4 recent posts, banner ad integration option, built-in site search, widgetized sidebars, and original Photoshop files available for download.

In addition, there are other features too that I was arrested by. One such was the Logo/header image integration option via control panel and the featured article glider option for home page, which has an on/off setting on the control panel, is a real coup. Besides, the widgetized sidebars and the threaded and styled comments sit really pleasingly on the eye. Word Press is a welcome addition to the concept of blog-streams, giving an easy to handle and wide range of features for productive composing in the word-happy surround.

Theme Features

  • Theme settings page in your WordPress control panel
  • 2-column or 3-column layouts with bottom right sidebar divided columns
  • Magazine layout options for home page with category blocks (up to 4) of recent posts
  • Threaded and Styled Comments
  • Featured article glider option for home page, with on/off setting on control panel
  • Gravatar integration
  • Banner ad integration option
  • Built-in post thumbnails option
  • Logo/header image integration option via control panel
  • Built-in site search
  • Built-in drop-down navigation for sub-categories and sub-pages
  • Built-in author page and author profile with Gravatar support
  • Widgetized sidebars
  • Basic SEO techniques integrated
  • Original Photoshop files (PSDs) available for download via control panel

PressBox

PressBox Theme is one of the most striking WP themes in the market today. It is a half blog and half magazine-style website theme. There is no doubt to the fact that it is a modern theme, which has been endowed with a galore of features and is available to the webmasters in both free & paid version.

I have found the free version to be attractive and can offer a lot of features, unavailable in most other premium WP themes. The premium version of PressBox theme offers a few extra than its premium one. There are features like portfolio views and extra page templates, which are sure to impress you. What I find excellent about the premium version is that it also removes the links back to the creator of the theme.

Theme Features

  • Semantically Microformatty - out of the box support for author microformat (great for multiple author blogs)
  • Lots of views – easily configure to focus solely on images like a portfolio site or look just like a normal blog.
  • Side, Doubleside - PressBox makes use of two distinct sidebars. A main sidebar to display on your blog index and a mini bar that shows up everywhere else
  • Not Wordpress Agnostic – uses widgets, sidebars, categories (with descriptions!), authors (we’re multi-authors ourselves), tags, page templates (including archives and links - and even a few more), a simple options panel
  • Premium Support – 3 months of email support
  • Lots of Options - PressBox comes with at least four - Simple, Constrasty, Dark, and Professional
  • Screen, System and Browser Tested - The theme was designed to look great on modern screens and modern systems. We’ve tested everything in all the popular browsers. Things look great in Firefox, Safari, Opera, and Internet Explorer 7 (things look ok in IE6 too).

At $45, I feel that the PressBox theme endows personality into your blog and at the same time, serves the website with several extra options for playing with.

Ambience

Ambience is another wonderful personal WordPress theme designed by WooThemes. It is a simple yet elegant theme for bloggers who wish to keep others updated about them and their activities. It has a specially customized lifestreaming widget and prominent Twitter status message across the top of the theme, it is rather hard for visitors to miss your online content and daily activities.

Theme Features:

  • 5 different colour schemes and styles
  • Integrated custom lifestreaming widget
  • Extravagent background graphics and front-end transparencies
  • Grid-based design, perfectly suited for a personal blog
  • Integrated theme options (for WordPress) to tweak the layout, colour scheme etc. for the theme
  • Built-in gravatar support for Authors & Comments
  • Integrated banner management script to display randomized banner ads of your choice site-wide
  • Widgetized sidebars
  • Twitter status message across top of theme

What do I think about this theme?

To be honest, I was not awed by the looks of this theme when I view the screen shots. However, my view begin to change drastically once I see the demo of Ambience in live action. All the 5 different colour schemes, styles, background graphics and transparencies are beautifully designed and laid out, each of them is uniquely distinct from the others and whichever scheme you choose, it will look stunning!

Other features which I think are essential to this theme are the customized lifestreaming widget and Twitter status message on top of the theme. These features make it easy for you to disseminate any information or events which you desire as well as giving visitors a peek into your life, activities and interactions with other people.

I suppose this theme is suitable for all bloggers who would like to get personal and develop an open-relationship with their blog visitors. It is suitable for bloggers who take pride in their work, especially those who are actively participating in social networking sites. Famous bloggers who have several blogs should just use this theme on a domain containing their personal names, this way your followers have a much easier time following you and your activities.

Andromeda

Andromeda is a premium Wordpress theme by Theme Galaxy. The theme is based on classical blog-styled templates and it has outstanding aesthetics and powerful capabilities to cater to professional bloggers’ needs.

Theme Features:

  • Featured article directly below header
  • Widget ready
  • Multi level navigation for categories
  • Twitter and Flickr feeds support
  • Custom social networking bookmark buttons
  • Fully compliant xhtml and css
  • Support documents and forum available
  • Custom modifications available upon request

What I think about this theme?

There is no doubt that Andromeda is geared towards readability of your blog content, this point is even highlighted by Theme Galaxy. The frontpage of the theme includes a featured article directly below the header with similar articles listed as well. I suppose not every bloggers would need such intense focus on any one of their blog posts but some bloggers with extremely critical and updated information may find this feature useful and necessary. To my relief, when I click on an individual post, the featured post section immediately disappears and what we get is a clean and professional looking layout.

What I like about this theme are its neat and prominent comment section and sidebars. All the icons and font are large and easy on the eye, bloggers who use this theme do not have to worry about abusing their readers’ eyes. Flickr and Twitter feeds integration allows bloggers to have a closer interactiion with their fans.

Conclusion

Andromeda is a good and neat premium theme but some bloggers may find it a little too simple looking and lack more powerful features such as tabbed navigation table, drop-down menus, etc. However, one of its main advantage is good readability, a feature which is surprisingly neglected in many new themes! Recommended for bloggers who want a simple, organised and self-sufficient platform to disseminate vital information. Most basic features of a modern blog are already offered in this theme, however, one can always turn to the support document, forum for simple customization or even request more advanced modifications from the developer.
